Terrasigna (https://www.terrasigna.com) is a Romanian SME that develops specialised services and applications based on EO data. The company follows 5 main activity lines:

  • EO services and applications development: analysis, processing and interpretation of different types of Earth Observation (EO) data. It provides customized Geo-Information services to a wide pool of public and private national, European and international clients. To name some: space agencies (European Space Agency, NASA, German Aerospace Center), international financial institutions, national public authorities, and private companies. The domains addressed are diverse (e.g. agriculture, forestry, coastal / marine, urban areas / landslides / critical infrastructure monitoring, wetlands monitoring, etc.).
  • Desktop and web applications for geospatial data management (satellite images, maps, surveys, and digitized content) – details below;
  • EO big data technologies:

    • High data volume information mining, extraction, analytics and fusion;
    • Multi-dimension data processing (e.g. time-series, altitude structured data cubes, etc);
    • Navigation, extraction, aggregation, and recombining of geospatial and non-geospatial data;
    • Advanced 2D/3D visualization and analysis for EO data processing result;
    • Data transformation and routing services;
    • Geospatial data search, access, retrieval and visualization through standard web services like the one defined by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC): Web Mapping Service (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS), Web Coverage Service (WCS), Web Coverage Processing Service (WCPS), Web Processing Service (WPS), Catalogue Service for Web (CSW);
    • Efficient archiving, querying, retrieval and recovery of data sets at different level of structuring, particularly large spatio-temporal databases;
    • Working and converting big spatial databases from/to specific file formats (e.g. GeoTiff, NetCDF, HDF, GRIB, BUFR etc);
    • Development of interactive spatial enabled web interfaces;
    • Knowledge in working with technical implementations of concepts like DaaS, InfaaS, SaaS, IaaS and PaaS;
    • Knowledge in using principles/techniques like MapReduce to efficiently orchestrate data processing services;
    • Knowledge in defining relevant use cases to demonstrate the processing platform capabilities;
    • Knowledge in bridging the gap between EO and other information technology sectors (e.g. computer vision, HPC, data mining/knowledge extraction, linked data, web ontology, etc).
