RSS WORKSHOP 12 October 2010 Retrospective

The first RSS Workshop held on the 12th of October 2010 at ESA's ESRIN facilities in Rome was a success with an approximate total of 150 participants. Sessions went on all day covering topics like Component-based Processing Environment presented by MEEO, Processing on Demand with GPOD, orchestrate and collaborate on the SSE, Information Mining, Evolution Analysis and much more.

In this workshop an interactive feedback system was used to gather the opinion of the crowd on the presentations. The attendees were requested to answer to a set of questions in the end of each presentation. They were queried on their acquaintance, usage, possible improvements, etc.

The first question we posed to the audience was to realize if they were acquainted with the different systems, except for MEA and RDS the results show that the systems were not new to the crowd.

The audience interest leaned more to 'Application & Service' even though it was a quite balanced audience as shown below.

We also queried the audience for each system if it would be useful or partially useful and the results were very interesting. G-POD is by far the system that most attendees found useful in all its functionalities, but the results level when we look at partial usefulness of the various systems.

Later we challenged the audience to know if they have proposals for the evolution of the presented systems.

For conclusion the audience was questioned on what areas should ESA extend its support to the systems: Engineering, Scientific, or Validation. Below is the percentage per system:

SSE - Service Support Environment
GPOD - Grid Processing on Demand
RDS - Reference Data Set
MEA - Multi-Sensor Evolution Analysis
KIM - Knowledge Information Mining
CPE - Component Based Programming Environment

Thank you all for participating in the survey.
