Broadcasting Africa FTPS Client configuration

This page wants to describe how to configure your FTPS client in order to get advantage of the Broadcasting Africa Service on SSE .

Download the FTPS Client

There are several clients supporting the FTPS protocol and the most easy to configure is Filezilla which can be downloaded here http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client. The configuration has been tested for version 3.5.2 and 3.5.3.

To install it you only need to download the installer and run it.

When you execute the Client and this interface will pop up (to zoom in the picture, put your mouse over it or click on the zoom button).

Client Widget

Using the default configuration, the client displays

  1. on top the connection log (it will show the log of the connection which will be usefull for us to support you in case of problems) -Cyan-
  2. on the left your machine (the current local directory -Red- and the local directory tree -Orange- are displayed on the left side of the main window by default.)
  3. on the right the destination server (After a successful connection attempt, a list of files and directories appears on the right side of the main window. The name of the current remote directory is listed in the edit field on the top-Green-. Below that you will see the remote directory tree. Under the remote directory is a list of the contents of the current remote directory. -Soft Green-)
  4. on bottom the transfer log (the log will show you the data transfer log which will be usefull for us to support you in case of problems) -Violet-

Configure connection to dds-interface server

In order to setup a new connection first click on the Site manager button on the top bar

then the widget below will appare


You have now to fill the following parameters:

  • Host= dds-interface.esrin.esa.int
  • port=990
  • Server type= FTPS- FTP over implici TLS/SSL
  • Logon type= Normal
  • User= "your user"
  • password= "your password"

Thank click "Connect"

Trust the certificate

After clicking on the "Connect" button the following the site certificate will be display

and you have to trust this certificate by clicking ok.
You can avoid this step in the future session by checking the option:"Always trust certificate in future session".

Upload files on the Server

To Upload files on the server just drag and drop them from your pc (left) to the server (right)
You can upload or download a file by double-clicking on it. It will be added to the transfer queue and the transfer starts automatically. To transfer directories and/or multiple files, select them and right-click the selection. Then you can click on Upload/Download in the popup menu.

You can also drag the files from one side and drop them on the other side. To add files to the queue so that they will be transferred later, select them and click Add to Queue from the popup menu. You may also drag the files directly into the queue. Click on the Process-queue-button.png button on the toolbar to start the transfer.

Or, you can click on a file, then drag the file (a box is added to the arrow cursor) to the directory where you want to move it. The directory will be highlighted when you are over it. Let go of the mouse button and the file will be moved to the directory.
